Should have a burst of newer stuff soon as I had some down time in between my last job and my newest one. I'm focusing heavily on improving the quality of my work and controlling the viewer with use of detail. My obsession with filling the screen can hurt the overall effect but I'm coming closer to making it work for me instead of against me.

3/25/2015 - Tricycle Cafe
This is an art test I did for a company that didn't work out. It is a tricycle cafe meant to have the theme of a french boulangerie. The color pallette and theme were chosen for me and it was rendered with mental ray shaders. I particularly enjoyed doing illustrations of food for the menu.

11/22/14 - Settling In
Getting settled into the freelance life. Picking up part time hours for some consistent pay on the side while I get rolling so I'm really learning to appreciate the chance to create. After spending so much time in school I have to admit I had lost the spark a bit. It has absolutely come back full force so now I'm grinding stuff out every chance I get. I am addicted to creating stuff and I don't ever want to stop.
Right now I'm pushing myself a lot in zbrush, trying to figure out every little bell and whistle is a mountain of a task but some of the results you get are very satisfying, especially in terms of saving yourself some time and smashing concepts out.
As a side note I'm beginning to get followers who are complete strangers and that's very new to me. I love you guys so much for being interested in what I do!

This bird is my first attempt at a full character in zbrush using a lot of subtools etc.
These busts were my 2 favorite out of like 10 busts I did. I brought them into photoshop and tried to integrate the zbrush render into a painting to flesh out the character.
These weapons are 100% photoshop painted and I was just playing with the idea of high and low level weapon design while using similar shapes.

10/13/14 - Thoughts about life and a new post after a very long time.
Since my last post I graduated from Full Sail University, worked for 6 months on my first contract in the game industry, travelled all over the country for various reasons and went to Disneyland. It's been crazy. Life feels like it's all up in the air right now and I have no control over it and I'm just along for the ride. I find it both extremely exciting but also terrifying, to be honest it's mostly terrifying to not know where this path is going to take me.
In terms of my artwork I am getting relatively far along in my own independent project. I spend many long nights chatting about the ins and outs of a world I'm building with my lady Courtney. I actually have plans for 3 different worlds in my head, but the next few years are going to be all about focusing and developing just one of those worlds. I plan on telling a story which takes place in this world once it is complete but for now I am developing cultures.
The various races of my world each must have an identity tied to themes that speak to the human experience. Then I fill in the gaps with the "good stuff," ecosystems and social paradigms which express these themes in a fun way.
Since my world is a Tolkien-esque medieval high-fantasy, I am hitting on many of the notes that people come to expect in such a world while trying to make it my own.
So here is my version of a goblin. It's a good place to start because in my world goblins live amongst all the other races of the world, they have no homeland. To the people they live with, they come off as flighty, playful, and perhaps a tiny bit annoying at times. However the entire race of goblins have a secret that nobody knows about (except my future readers/players). They are the eyes and ears of an ancient and unknown race which will act as the narrator of my story. Unbeknownst to the denizens of the world, Goblins act as information gatherers for a higher power that I will elaborate on at a later time. I was trying to elicit a sense of playfulness, while also hinting that they are the secret keepers of great and ancient knowledge. Let me know what you think!

Jason Drawing - Post 5 - 4/01/13 - UDK/Sketchbook Update
I feel like Frankenstein reanimating this blog, but here goes. It's day 3 of Spring break, by the end of it I will post 2 very epic pieces I'm working on. For now here's some sketches to let people know I haven't dropped off the face of the earth.
I'm also including a few photos of my first fully functional UDK level. UDK is amazing and I'm addicted.

Jason Drawing - Post 4 - 12/07/12 - Rigging is Difficult
Here I am again!
This month I'm dealing with a class load that's pretty intense yet again. I'm learning how to rig my characters and make them move, which is sort of difficult but very satisfying.
Once it's over I will make a post covering some of the process from storyboard to single frame cg layouts which are basically just storyboards in 3-d.
On the drawing side I have a couple designs, this time with a little color.

Jason Drawing - Post 3 - 11/20/12 - Code Conquered
Hello peoples,
I finally finished that coding class and am about to head back to Chicago for Thanksgiving. I have a fun project being started in my new class that will be comprised of a lot of relatively fun work.
Hello peoples,
I finally finished that coding class and am about to head back to Chicago for Thanksgiving. I have a fun project being started in my new class that will be comprised of a lot of relatively fun work.
So here is my first rough set drawing from that very project. Most likely more to come
but I'll have to double check that I'm allowed to share more.
Here is a fantasy/futuristic pilot.
And here is a mob idea meant to fit in the game world of Dark Souls or Demon Souls by FromSoftware, just a random idea I had.
Next post will include some colorful stuff and hopefully a bit of the work from the class I'm taking this month. As always thanks for stopping in to check stuff out. :D
